Property in
Myrtos
Myrtos is a picturesque village in the South-East of Crete, not far
away from the city of Ierapetra. This traditional village, which has
experienced touristic development in the last years, but without
loosing its traditional character, has a lovely variety of
properties ready for you, which are very suitable for the
realisation of your dream home.
The inhabitants of the village live mainly from farming; in summer
there are rooms for rent and you spend your time in the cosy cafes
and tavernas on the sea front. The sea lies gloriously blue directly
at the village, a marvellous beach extends along the main road and
some smaller, less attended beaches, where camping is allowed, can
be found in the vicinity.
For the residents the peaceful and mild winter days are especially
attractive because of the excellent position on the South coast,
which in the summer become vivid warm nights – but without excessive
nightlife. You enjoy quiet and relaxation reading a book, drinking
coffee in the traditional kafeneion or making a walk through the
narrow whitewashed alleys with colourful flowerpots. A special
attraction is the newly renovated church of Agios Antonios, and the
former school which now houses the village museum also is worth a
visit.
The transport connection is given through two car routes, either
from the road from Heraklion over Viannos to Myrtos or the route
westwards from Ierapetra, where a bus goes every two hours and where
you can find all the necessary shops.
Those who want to leave the village for a while can make trips to
the surrounding mountain villages or to the Minoan settlement in
Pyrgos. Also the island Chrysi can easily be reached by boat.
